People say" I identify as a man" or "as lesbian".

Some people say, " I don't even see you as black; I see you as a person."

However, often the black person will say, " But I am black. It is part of my identity"

This does not mean that the person identifies as " only black". But it is a personal truth.

By saying "I am black" means I am proud to be black.
